Lava Lake Fishing Report – August 7, 2026: Fishing continues to be productive at Lava Lake, with good numbers of rainbow trout available and some larger fish in the mix. Recent reports have included fish in the 14–18 inch range, with occasional trout over 20 inches.
Best Time to Fish: Mornings and evenings are generally the best windows, especially on warmer, brighter days. During the middle of the day, look for fish holding deeper or cruising along drop-offs and weed edges.
What’s Working: Balanced Leeches, Chironomids, Callibaetis patterns, Pheasant Tails, Perdigons, Woolly Buggers, and other small leech patterns are all good options. Dry flies can also produce when fish are actively working the surface.
Recommended Approach: Focus on weed edges, drop-offs, and deeper water where trout can find cooler temperatures and consistent food. Indicator fishing with chironomids or balanced leeches is a strong option when fish are holding deeper. During active feeding periods, stripping small leeches or Callibaetis patterns can cover water effectively, while dries are worth switching to whenever consistent surface activity develops.
