Lakes & Reservoirs 8-8-24
WICKIUP RESERVOIR:- Lake is at 36% full
. Fishing has been fair to good. Few hatches as of late. Some Kokanee are starting to be caught in the deeper areas. Buggers and leeches are producing some fish in the flats.Caddis and Small Black midge patterns also.
DAVIS LAKE: Stripping Big buggers& bunny leeches in dark colors work best. Trout fishing is pretty good if you can find them. Hanging Hares ears and chronamids under a bobber is working well. Green zebra midges also producing some fish. The fish are pretty big 3-4x flouro tippet is a must.
CRANE PRAIRIE RESERVOIR:- 87%.
Fishing is picking up daily. Balanced Leeches and chironomids are working pretty good. Green Brown and red seem to be colors as of late. size 12-14. Size 18 black and red midges are working also. Fish are scattered all over. Water temp is around 75+degrees +
EAST LAKE:
Be careful launching.. The Lake is low again this season. Fishing is is fair to good on Balanced leeches and midges all colors. Black being the best. Callibeatis Nymphs and dries are in full swing. Size 14-16
PAULINA LAKE
Fishing good all around the Lake. Buggers, Leeches and Chronimads are working great. Ant and beetles in the afternoons on top..
HOSMER LAKE:
Be careful of the paddle board hatch in full swing.. Starting to fish well all over the lake… Green and Black Leeches working well. Black Midges under a bobber.
LAVA LAKE:
The lake is rising and still a little off color but clearing up daily. Fishing has been slow to fair as of late. Wind drifting buggers on a sinking line works well. also hanging chronamids on the west side shore line is productive. Green ice cream cones and Green zebra midges work consistently well.
NORTH & SOUTH TWIN Lakes Hanging Flies under an Indicator should work best While the water is still cold. South side of the Lake should be best. Nymphs, Chronamids and Leeches hanging deep works pretty well.
DESERT LAKES: Haystack 87% full , Ochoco 88% full. Ana, Antelope Flat, and Thompson can fish well! Chironomids, Leeches, Scuds & Boatman. FLIES: Tan & Olive Scuds, Prince Nymphs, Water Boatman, Zug Bugs, Wooly Buggers, TSW, Goat Leech, Yankee Buzzer, Chromies and Snow Cones.
Rivers 8-8-24
LOWER DESCHUTES RIVER:
Trout fishing is ok to fair but getting better daily. Steelhead should be showing up soon.. BWO’S ,PMD’S coming off on the Dries, nymphing with Stone Fly Patterns, pheasant tails, zebra midges, or any other small baetis flies. Swinging Leeches is producing as of late.
CROOKED RIVER: Currently running at 250+ cos
Nymphing working best under a bobber. fish will hold in deceivingly shallow water. Look for larger rocks and riffles. Make sure to keep your nymph rigs shallow, or try a dry dropper setup. Flies should be no bigger than a #16, midges,San jauns,Egg patterns and small mayfly patterns. PMD’S& BWO’S Dries are working when hatches go off.
FALL RIVER: BUSY! Midges,egg patterns buggers and some bwo’s
but Plenty of fish to be caught at the campground. Also the Hatchery grounds. Mid-day to evening will be best fishing time. Classic methods of dry flies and small nymphs SIZE 18-20 will produce the best. Strip Streamers around logjams and undercut banks. Use a stealthy approach to avoid spooking fish. Please be polite to one another. Dry droppers under Chubby’s is a good option. Flourocarbon 5x 6x is a must for nymping.
UPPER DESCHUTES:
The water is looking Good.! Small leeches, Caddis puppa, Midges and small copper johns are producing fish up and down the upper stretch. Flouro tippet is a must while nymphing.
DESCHUTES- SUNRIVER to WICKIUP:open – Lots of Browns Being Caught On Streamers Green and brown Is working best.
DESCHUTES- Benham Fall’s down stream to Bend: Open all year. Flows are High from releasing water out of wickiup.. Most fish will be in near the bank, which is a good thing since wading can be tough. Stone Fly nymphs are always available to the trout, so its best to keep one on and trail it with a smaller mayfly nymph or midge. Also fish streamers AND Sculpins around structure. Please be cautious !
METOLIUS RIVER: Open all year. All Tactics are productive with Nymphing being best. The summer months can furnish great conditions for large caddis hatches as well as stone flies. There are always resident Bull Trout in the river that are aggressive and commonly go for large streamers and sculpins
